Is it possible to get ranked without proper SEO?

Yeah, it is possible but honestly, you can't rely on that 'full-time'.
Sometimes we might get lucky with some low to mid-competition keywords or just having awesome content.
But most of the time, SEO helps us stay competitive.
Without it, we're kind of gambling and could be missing out on better rankings.
I'd say it's worth at least getting the basics down.
Of course, like with most things in SEO, it depends on a lot of factors.
For a new website and niche, we might need some basic SEO to get things started, and if we're lucky, it could eventually take off and push the site to the top.
Other examples could be things like movie sites, quizzes, etc.
It really just depends on timing, what's happening in the industry, and what might happen next, if that makes sense ( :

Without proper SEO, your content would need to be insanely good, unique, or viral for people to naturally share it and link back to it.

You might get lucky but you won't stay ranked for long because a competitor who is properly optimized will come and knock you off.

I think you're referring to churn and burn methods. You might see short-term success with these tactics, but eventually, your website will drop from search results due to Google penalties. If you're aiming for long-term success, it's better to focus on proper SEO optimization strategies.

Doing so is akin to gambling. Especially gambling without any data set to work with. You may get lucky, but chances are you won't be lucky.

Ranking without proper SEO is challenging but possible in less competitive niches; however, effective SEO greatly enhances visibility and success.

Without SEO, You might see some rankings based on content quality, relevance, or even social shares, but without optimization, search engines may struggle to understand, and rank your site effectively.

I remember the first few sites that I've built, I was ranking quite decently.
I didn't do proper SEO.
I didn't know the value of proper titles, keyword research, and all that good stuff.
What was my secret?
I was talking about things in a niche that was fairly new.
That's it!
That's the secret.
When you're in that kind of position, Google is just going to focus on what people are interested in instead of technical considerations to rank your pages.
I was offering information that other people barely covered or covered in an incomplete way.
I also went out of my way to present it in such a way that people can actually take action on the information.
I was quickly rewarded with decent traffic.
But this is not sustainable.
Why?
Once people sniff out your niche and notice that it can grow a lot of traffic and it can make a lot of money, they will start building proper websites that are properly SEO'ed.
So the titles are perfect.
They're intended to get people to click, and when they go on the page, it's structured correctly.
There's a nice mix of multimedia elements.
The whole 9 yards.
And when that happens, you're dead in the water.
Instead of thinking about how to get ranked without proper SEO, think in terms of making sure that you have the proper fundamentals.

Yes it is possible to rank without proper SEO.
As an SEO enthusiastic I have seen lots of websites ranking without Proper SEO.
But the main problem is you will be in trouble if some of your competitors are doing proper SEO.
