Is it possible to get enough traffic from Google alone? I'm not sure if it's the niche or me, but social media does very little traffic for me and even less conversions.

Is it worth trying to improve onsite SEO and just rely on organic trafic from keywords on google?

Do keyword research first buddy, and then start SEO your site.

Yes, there are a lot of answer that rely exclusively on search engine traffic, and they are quite big, so that should not be a concern for you. If you are able to do good keyword research, create content, and build backlinks, you should have enough traffic and conversions from google alone with no need for social media traffic or other source. Not that is recommendable to do this, but it's very possible.

If you're in the right niche with the right keywords then Google can easily be "enough".

For sure possible. Just find some keywords with low competition and focus on them. Use LSI content format and Long tail keywords (but don't use them as it is for the sake of LSI)...

"JUST RELY"? That's not a good alternative either. You would always want to put your eggs in different baskets hence traffic sources should always vary.

Also, when you say that social media gives you little traffic, what do you do in it exactly? Do you do manual outreach? Following / liking? Creating shareable content? Do you push ads in them?

Without any idea in your niche, I'm afraid all we can do is speculate and give out generic advice.

Short Answer: YES.

But if you are getting less traffic from social media and lower converts then something is wrong with what you are doing. Social media traffic can be highly targeted and that brings a high % of converts. Getting traffic from search engines takes more efforts, takes longer but produces a long term result. I would put more efforts into social media if the niche is sm friendly.
