Is it possible to get decent installs with apps WITHOUT using Googleplay ?

Does anyone have experience using other alternate app stores/markets and having success with your apps getting decent install numbers without using Googleplay ? I'm not necessarily talking about an app going huge and being the next flappybird or whatever, but lets say I created 100 separate small time apps and put them on certain alt stores could is it reasonable that they could still bring in decent installs that could in return bring in decent earnings ?

The only way is to make SEO and own website. From alternative stores you can get in average 100 installs/app overall
There are big fishes because they are making also SEO, store is only tool for them to host APK
