I’m fairly certain they’re talking about special links, not backlinks to your site.
(a) Special Links
After you have applied to the Associates Program, you are permitted to display Special Links on your Site. Special Links enable accurate tracking, reporting, and accrual of fees.
Special Links must use the Associates ID we have assigned to you.

Do some research and it’s actually fairly simple.
The hard part is getting it approved, they’ll annoy the ever living soul out of you and give tons of delays
I used to sell these links but decided to stop after seeing what has happening with approvals.
I would provide the method if it was a good decision, but it would probably be turned into a no follow link 3 seconds afterwards.

Forgot to add, they wrote this on their "what's changed" page, the changes will be effective on Oct 1.
- Clarified that the following cannot be posted on Amazon: Special Links and links to Sites specifically to promote your Special Links.

BTW, I'm checking my site for compliance now. And here's where I'm stuck: do you rewrite the keyword stuffed product titles to make them human readable for your affiliate site or is rewriting and shortening them means "altering Program Content". Are product titles Program Content?That makes a lot more sense, thanks
