Ive seen stuff like Buddypress or bb press and jomsocial plug ins.

But I never seen any big time website us this stuff, I tried to find examples of successful sites using these programs and found none.

It sounds too good to be true.

Ive kept thinking about trying to use these tools but not sure if they are any good.

Of course, you can make social network on wordpress but what you said is right, all successful sites are customized and not any cms based

yeah, Ive yet to see any success story using these social network plug ins, usually you will see a story out there and someone earning a lot of money from their ads but I heard buddypress has too much bloat and slows down the site.

You could give this a try: https://www.socialengine.com/

WP is shit on performance when you go over some amount of posts not to say the server resources used for refreshing things. At the end you can have much efficient code paying less for IT structure. We are talking for lets say 500 current users every minute staying for a while, where you cant cash much of a content.

It is possible but if it grows then managing wp or joomla is a pain. Better code something simpler and once it grows then get more features into it.

Why would you want to do such thing? You can do it but Wordpress wasn't designed for that. If you want a social network you'll need to spend cash if you don't know programming. There's quite a few social systems for sale in code canyon if you're on a budget.

Oh, and don't look for famous websites built with x or y tool. It doesn't really matter, you shouldn't care, pick a tool for its features not for who uses it.

Is Code Canyon on Themeforest, I have a themeforest account, I got my first Wordpress theme there it was pretty good back in 2010 but the maker stopped updating it and no longer covers it so I had to get Genesis theme.

They got 297 social scripts and all for a cheap price, which ones are the best go for the ones with th emost high ratings and buys?

Sounds almost too good to be true, I dont see any famous sites using this though. Also where do they place ads?

It's usually hard to tell at first glance that a website is using Social Engine, they have no "powered-by" branding. Take a look at their "customer success stories" and see for yourself. They also have lots of ways to display advertisements: https://www.socialengine.com/features/php/core

What I'm saying is that it is probably a better idea to go with a piece of software that was specifically written for your intended use than go with something else.

Why not try it your self and just do it? It will hold its own will you ramp up users, which is your biggest problem. On the other hand, you can always try to start forum as well and then move to custom made social network to see, if you are able to get attraction. Try to wet your feet with least amount of effort to check the viability of your idea.

It's possible to build a functional computer in Minecraft, but that's also a huge waste of time.

Through plugins, you can use wordpress in any way possible however established websites prefer getting custom scripts developed.

They're from the same company and are strongly related.

You can filter them by popularity, people usually choose the ones with more sales, you can filter it on the website, so that it shows you the most people ones. you can also ask your inquiries to the seller before you buy so ask several sellers if they have what you need.

Obviously it's possible. But performance is a question here. If you can maintain the quality & optimization properly, surely it can provide a good platform.
