If you're asking me I bought a PR6 domain in July for $827. I then pointed it to my PR5 site (which I bought last year). I did this because my PR5 site never moved PR despite 3 or 4 PR updates since I bought it. By buying a domain with a higher PR, it moved one up! Next goal is to hunt a PR7 or higher domain. I doubt it though as I've never seen a REAL PR7 domain get auctioned off (although I'm not checking the acutions daily).
To answer your question, (from PR4 to PR5): In my case I am actually very white hat. I just built quality content that people liked and linked to from various sources. What tipped it from PR4 to PR5 was probably that I got a bit lucky that a number of influencers with big blogs liked what they saw and linked to me...
Eventually there was an PR update happening this past few months after the sudden changes of PR of some sites. There were some theoretical observation on how PageRank works but until now nobody knows what algorithm used by some search engine to rank website.
heh ... one of my sites jumped from pr0 to pr6 ( new site ) a couple of days ago it was still 0 so i gues yeah... it's an update ( also rankings jumped on some keywords )
Really cool to see, so far my greatest hit is a page that went from 0 to 5.
Just so I'm clear on the subject. Google's algorhythm is internally aware of PR on a "live" or "semi-live" basis right? This update is not going to shock SERPS?
