Is it ok to go to let's say, a Spanish website, translate their content into English using translation tools, clean the content up and post it on my site? So it's unique content in the eyes of google.
Will it rank in google? Has anyone done this before? Any experience?

Technically it can be done and there are no technical issues regarding Google.
The only issue is that the Spanish owner detects the translation by any means, files a DCMA, and unlists your page.
This is more painful when you are already ranking after a long while and getting a good amount of visits.

It should be fine on Google's end. Duplication is what most users fear, especially when it comes to translated content. However, Google doesn't consider it a duplicate. Once the content is translated, it becomes mostly new. All you need to make sure is the quality of the translated one, to get a chance for ranking.

We do that all the time for unique content and make sure to run it through Grammarly and it will be good to go.

if real content writer files dmca againts ur translated content ur link will be down so no use mate try to write own way

Its okay, but the translated contents are no sense to anyone.
Its better to create unique contents - that make sense!

You can do it, I don't think Google has reached that level of intelligence yet, but you need to spend some time to clean it up anyway after Google Translate, as Translate hasn't reached that level of intelligence either.

So why not just create new content, maybe taking the main idea from another article?

Right, google isn't that smart yet to identify translated content on its own. But yea, quality of translation matters a lot because most of the times translated content looks funny in English and vice versa.

It will rank no prob. Might as well spin it, clean it up some, add a bit extra and voila. Will still take less time than writing a lengthy article.

Totally unique ... just edit it and write a good English, Try also to read a little bit about Translation, and how to translate correctly.

Google translate is a bad tool. so don't rely on it every time you're gonna translate a post and be creative ;)
