Hey guys, i can't wake up if i sleep 7 or 8 hours, but its more easy to get wake up if i sleep 9 hours and very easy to get wake up after i slept 10 hours. So my question is , is it normal that i need lots of sleep 9-10 hours a day?

Can you tell me how many hours do you sleep? Because it gets frustrating when i "try to be productive" and set my alarm clock to ring after 8 hours, but then i turn it off and go to sleep and then i wake up after 12 hours blaming myself why i turned off the alarm clock.

So i found that for example if i give myself to sleep 10 hours, its easy to wake up for me, but im wondering if its not time wasting to sleep that long..

Need your opinion guys, how much time do you sleep each day?

Same. I need 9+ hours of sleep. Otherwise It's hard for me to get up

It's ok take as long but usually I hear 6-7 hrs is enough

Oh, very nice to hear that! At least i feel better now to know that not only I need 9-10 hours of sleep. You know, the problem is that when you work online, you don't have working hours and you can work anytime, that makes to wake up harder..

I am usually all day in front of a PC. I think that's the problem.

I'm not a doctor but i can tell you about myself, im the exact opposite of you, if i slept more than 6hr it will be hard for me to wake up, the more i sleep the lazy i get.

Look up Sleep Apnea, if you have that you need more sleep, because of the poor quality you're getting
otherwise some people just need 9 hours of sleep, which might be genetic

like there are some genetic freaks that just need 5-6 hours lol, i wanna be one of those

8 hrs is totally normal. 9-10 hours show fatigue imo. Perhaps consult a general physician and get your complete blood profile done. It might actually be totally normal, but don’t guess it.

P.S. Bhw isn’t a doctors forum. IM doesn’t mean Immediate Medicine.

Do you extremely tire & exhaust yourself each time before you sleep ? If yes, then you would require 9 to 10 hours of sleep in order to be properly productive again. If you follow a routine everyday and sleep fixed hours, then 7 hours of sleep will be enough to wake up re-energized.

Probably you need to increase your sleep quality in order to get the same result in a lower time.
Eat healthy, practice sports and get laid help.

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with sleeping so long. This is your body's way of telling you that it needs to take a break and get some rest. But if you think your sleeping pattern seems unusual, maybe consult with a doctor just to check if everything is OK with you.

7-8 hours is fine
Some guys stick to a bi-phasic schedule (like afternoon nap to compensate for lost hours)

like there are some genetic freaks that just need 5-6 hours lol,
Yeah, heard about that in JRE podcast.

I sleep 4-5 hours at night and 30-60min nap mid day. To have more time to work. But if I have the luxery to sleep 9 hours I would do it everyday lol

A lot of pro Athletes sleep 10 hours and its like a secret weapon.
There is a great story how Pete Sampras came back to win Wimbledon and no one could figure out how he did it, in fact people speculated that he was on performance enhancing drugs, etc and one of the biggest things he changed was getting consistent 10 hours of sleep. So this led to a bunch of sleep studies with athletes and the findings were all the same, 9-10 hours = better output. However their sleep schedules were in line with circadian rhythms so they were in bed lmm a few hours before midnight and up shortly after sunset so like 9p-7a.
If you are staying up until 2am and sleeping until noon you may find you need less sleep if you went to bed before midnight. Also blue light blockers (like the crazy orange welding glasses) help your body increase melatonin after sunset.
Anyhow all of the sleep info can be found in this book, its really good.

It really depends on the person, when I was working 4 nights a week I had to sleep 12 hrs to feel rested, now I sleep around 10 hrs

Some people need only 5 hours, others need 9-10 hours. It differs a lot between people. They say that people usually need 8 hours of sleep - but that's in general, it can't be applied to all individuals.

I myself need around 8-9 hours to function. If I get less, I'm like a zombie.

It's common for teenagers to sleep more than adults.

This! It is so true, the 8 hour average is not a one size fits all. If you fall outside of the bell curve of 8 hours who cares.
If I knew 13 hours of sleep would make me a productive freak of nature in the day time I would make sure I got my 13 hours. One should sleep however long they need to fire on all cylinders in the daytime.
And for anyone in dev I think 10 hours is good, because having your ass glued to a chair for 8+ hours a day rewriting shitty code is an “endurance sport” and akin to Tom Brady playing a 4 hour game IMO. Lol

If one is sleeping long hours to avoid the day or feels fatigued throughout the day and cant get basic tasks done, I would consider that something to look into with a medical professional.

I used to sleep 12 - 15 hours when I was younger and there were even times that I slept 24 hours. No kidding, I remember sleeping for just 3 - 5 hours every day for five months. And today my body clock is always changing I don't know why, sometimes a night owl and sometimes an early bird.
