Is it necessary to NULL themeforest themes?

Hey all.

If I am to run a themeforest theme, is it necessary to have some kind of serial? Do they call home somehow? Or is it so simple that I can use them if I have the files?

Hi ThreadKiller,

I'd advice to actually stay away from null themes. Most of them have backdoors installed. And once your site starts hitting big traffic you could be in trouble. You could have your site hacked, bunch of random ads placed or simply just have your site deleted. The only useful thing I see in nulled themes is to just try a theme out locally and see if you like it. IF you do, then buy it. Plenty of themes especially WP themes tend to have certain bugs in them, some of them are placed intentionally by the developer sometimes as an effort to try and have people buy the theme instead of getting it nulled.

That's why you learn to null them yourself

Thanks, but I know that. What I was trying to figure out was whether Themeforest themes call home or not.

I think it depends on the developer.

But, if you have the files, why not browse them, and see if there's something suspicious, that could be some sort of check?
