Its such a mundane work and I don't have enough capital to spend on services also. But I do have writing skills for which I can arrange around 2 articles a day

My niche is in health category and I am well aware of on-page SEO.

So I was wondering whether can't we just survive by posting great articles(Long tails) and do NO backlinking at all?

That sucks and Matt Cunts say that we just should only write articles and don't focus on SEO

It may work if they don't roll back penguin update. I tested this on a 5 year old site which received penguin slap. If I post new articles, they rank immediately after they are indexed - for long tail keywords in the main title and header tags. But even if I build around 150 social bookmarking links manually, over 4-5 days, with 12 anchor texts and description, the article ceases to rank.

Doing it yourself is the best, manual beats automated anyday. Especially after penguin. Even if you do a small bit of SEO, it's better than none.

According to Google, the only SEO you should be taking care of is on-page so in theory, YES you can totally get away with just writing articles and not doing any SEO. I was making money off one of my websites before I got caught up in any of this SEO stuff just writing 1-2 articles a day, than slowed it down to 3-4 articles a week. I ordered a service here on BHW a month before the penguin, and because of terrible service, it was delivered 3 days after the penguin update which completely sunk my website (keep in mind that I forgot I had placed an order for this service as I did not expect it to take a month to complete a few .edu backlinks).

My honest opinion/advice? Keep writing good quality and engaging content and just sharing it socially -- don't do any link building except social bookmarks and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the results in a month or two.

After penguin update, i just focus on content then i am make daily plan. For more information you can check this thread

There should be a blend of both content as well as SEO. Over the years, I was focusing only on content but after Panda things changed abruptly and sites having not so good quality were ranking above my website. Thereafter, I decided to use 30% of my resources on SEO. Though I still believe Content is KING.

SEO complusory is getting traffic through Search Engine

Not sure. I mean if you have high quality content, proper keyword optimization, then you can get traffic. Over the years, I used to hate SEO and only focus on top quality content but recently I have made amendments.

There is too much content on the internet for "just writing articles" to be a legit strategy for seo traffic. If you only like to write articles, make sure to submit at least few of them to article directories. A couple of links and some content is usually better than no links and a little more content.

You should NEVER listen to what Matt Cunts says....if you want to succeed in SEO...

Yes this will work........but damn it takes way too long.

It does take very long but at the end of the day, you've secured your site against incurring any penalties in the future. Of course, this isn't for sure as negative SEO is a huge issue right now -- I'm surprised Google has no dealt with it yet.

Here is your answer : SEO = Search Engine Optimisation and Writing Articles = Content to be SEOed

On-page isn't enough. if you have made one GREAT movie with your skills but if you don't tell anybody about the movie then nobody knows about your movie! same in SEO. you do create a Great high quality content but you need to promote it to other(relevant sites) to be able to get rank for your main terms!

On-page is creation and off-page is promotion.. simple :)

if you keep posting articles regularly, your trust will increase. That will get you a lot of traffic. But if you really want to touch the peak potential a niche has, you will have to invest money in link building - i mean, real link building, not the so called " whitehat seo ".
