Is it illegal to teach something Illegal while doing nothing Illegal in the process?

If you 're really worried, you should check with a layer because the law system is by design very complicated and country specific.

A very well known case was that of DeCSS in Norway. A kid made an algorithm that broke the copyright protection. He got to trial and was acquitted. But that 's Norway, not US, so who knows... a lawyer may. An IMer, not really.

No matter what the true case is, the fact that you feel uneasy can only be lifted by an authoritative answer because in the end, you have to be able to sleep well at nights. So, either get an authoritative answer or don't do anything.

No, if you don't have re-seller rights, you 've already broken the law yourself, no need to worry what others do with the software

OP, it depends on the presentation. Look at "The Real Hustle" (British TV series from 2006). The show was basically teaching viewers how to scam each other. They are not getting in trouble though, because they present what they are doing as "outing" other people's scams.

If you teach a person how to hold a knife and slice a pumpkin into 2, then it's a perfectly legal method. When the learner goes to his neighbor and uses the method to slice his neck then it becomes illegal act. You'll not be held responsible for that action. If you teach a person how to do a sexual act, it too is a perfectly legal act (you are a school teacher and are teaching students how a human being is born, for example). But if the student practices that act on his class mates that night then you're not responsible for the crime. But take a competent lawyer's opinion about all this.... lol

It doesn't matter if you do anything wrong, you can sue (or get sued by) anyone today for anything and get an insurance settlement at the policy limits almost all the time. Even frivolous lawsuits are routinely settled.

They will fight if you are greedy or totally stupid in your reason, or if they get a wild hair or have a client that insists, but by and large, they settle. If it will cost more in legal staff time than the settlement, they write a check.

You are simply creating a mechanism that increases the chances of you being sued by someone like that.

Better to not create the mechanism in the first place.
