hey guys i have a simple question, is it illegal to ask for donations to keep site running?

before the donation button it clearly states the money will be going to keep the website running, paying for its hosting, and production management in bold big font. no where does it say it will help or be given to for an example a company, organization, or etc

is it illegal of red cross to haunt innocent bypassers with their own cause? noooo begging/donation begging is legal to do... legal even if you have huge posters of dead animals around your donation box like greenpeace does and it i still very legal.

So many sites ask for donations, but a lot have realized that unless there is a little bit of an incentive given, not too many people will click that donate button.

Offer access to a special area of your site to people who donate.

In regards to whether or not it's legal, of course not. Charities who receive donations and clearly state it's on behalf of an organization/fund/mission only have to actually give ~30% of the donations they receive. THAT should be illegal.

You asking people to help fund an enterprise they use is reaching out to the community and getting them involved. Not illegal, perverse, corrupt, or otherwise.

It is not at all illegal. Donation means clearly we can ask for people to donate. It is not like google adsense, to request ads click. Even in blackhatworld, there is donation button, where it asks clearly to donate for site maintenance and other things.

So, place donate button and add any text, does not matter.

As long as you don't claim to be a charity it is fine.

It is not illegal to ask for donation.

However, you need to have some kind of incentive or really good content for them to donate.

Remember that you won't receive a lot of money with this
