My website has outdated content from 2016, and I am updating them by rewriting a whole content one by one. Now the question is , should i changed its published date?
or just adding a last update date at the bottom or top of the content. which is best for better result?

Updating your content is a good idea, but don’t change the published date. Simply add a "Last Updated" date at the top of the article this is enough.

If you have a lot of interest in your content, changing the publication date is a good option, and you can add a “Last Updated” date at the bottom.

I would make the articles stay up to date, so the published date too, it could be different opinion by other

But when i keep the "published date" update, my articles get more feature snippets

Updating your content is good, but avoid changing the original published date. Instead, as you're saying add the updated date at the top of the article. This approach sends positive signals to search engines about your content's freshness.

I'd keep the original publish date and add a "last updated" date at the top

The content update was good one, but I refer don't change the publish date, you just updated the last update date. one day it will be helpful for you in some way.

Create new articles with updates and do some inner linking without screaming here is the updated version on top of your old articles.

That would instantly move your visitors from the page they are looking at.

You want update to be located at the mid or bottom of your old pages. That's the correct move.

Keep the site URL structure as it was.
