Is it even worth the effort to write your own book?

I've been thinking about actually writing a book for some years now. Over the time I've also seen alot of ads on YT, socialmedia and whatsoever, where people do have some serious success with their own books, while, I would say, 90% of them won't share the real gold nuggets and most of the info you'd get yourself by googling some hours.

I'm not so familiar with the "business" of writing, but I think that you're still able to achieve some true success with an amazing book.

The thing is, it's kind of more important for me to write this book because I want to enlighten all the people and because it's kind of the whole story about my journey. BUT on the other hand, I don't want to write this book just for me or just that some people read it. I know that this is going to be a shitload of work so I want to profit from it, too. That's for sure.

You could tell me now that there are so many books and so many people try to publish an amazing book without any success or any sales. I would totally say the same so, what's so special?

I want to write this book about a business I'm in since around 8 years now. It's kind of a shady business too, but its a really nice niche. 99% of the people on this planet don't know what's really going on behind the scenes. I'm talking about gambling/sports betting.

Because I'm in there for so long and made all the experience by myself, I know that I'd be going to share all the information/insights/tips PLUS my successful approach. All the info you won't find anywhere on the Internet and all the honest truth, none of the 1% that are successful in this business for the long run, want anybody else to know about.
I'd be going to really share the "secret", nobody wants to talk about freely. (Because they'd give away their edge or whatever)

With that much insight I kinda want to ask, is it even possible/enough to have information of unmeasurable worth in a book, for it to be successful? Or is the Marketing the true and only way, all these books get popular?

I'm not quite sure about it. On one hand, I think that in the end, only the really good books with amazing insights and helpful information will beat the competition. But on the other hand, there are so many popular books that basically sell 100% crap, so it must have been all the marketings work to make it successful.

What I'm asking is.. is the work really done after you finished the book or does it only start then? Will even one single person buy your book, if you don't make any marketing, hoping that your valuable information will spread just in a matter of time?

Is it even worth it to write an actual helpful book, instead of some scammy shit backed up with amazing marketing? Would it even sell if you're a no name?

Should you offer the book for free? Should you do shady shit like free + shipping, just earning the shipping costs and not really from your valuable insights?

Should you market your own product in the book, like so many authors of successful books did, where they made the actual profits with sellups?

Or is it better right now to sell a coaching with all the information instead of a book?

If not, should it be a real book? Just an eBook? Or an audible book? Or all of them?

The problem is, I know how valuable the information is I'd be going to share. It'd even exceed the price of a normal book by a hundred times.. I just wonder if the potential readers would guess and understand that too..

Are we living in a world now, where you even need to spend thousand of $$$ to market a book which shares priceless Information, or does it spread organically just because of its value?

What do you think? :) Would love to get some insights

Oh, I know what's going on behind the scene. I am / I've been a rabid better and I've heard a lot of stories about any sporting event in this world, and most of these stories are real and I've experienced them on my own money.

Your book would definitely be read and would be intriguing and shocking enough for many betters but the question is... are you ready to pay with your life, or your family members' lives when the mafia comes to cut your throat for demasking them? Sure, if you don't give names that's safe for you, but some people might demand proof in order to believe you and if you even allude to some big mobster in this industry you will accidentally die by black heart or something that science doesn't even know exists.

Cruyff had not been able to talk about things going on "behind the scenes" while he had played football, and there have been other people in his situations who have only been able to "speak" after they have died. Or something like that.

Haha, with "behind the scenes" I rather mean how to actually be profitable in the long run. I won't call any names or tell stories about any people. I don't think this would get me killed, would it?

If you ever doubt yourself, think about it this way:
"Why would anyone read your book?"
Well, why do people here read introductions that are 2 sites long?
Why do people read comments on 9gag that go on for 1k comments?
Why do people read this comment?
Why would people read my comments on youtube, like me and subscribe to my channel?
Because they do. Everyday things are read over and over again, no matter how boring you think it is, someone is gonna like it.
No matter how much you hate it, someone is gonna love it.

Your idea is great! And you should just start, write a few sentences everyday, maybe you will end up in pages once started.
Reread it, if you're really not familiar with writing books, read one book for 1 hour a day that is close to what you want to write.
Never forget there are at least 1million books about tigers, and billions of books about finance, yet nearly everyone got read..
Behind the scenes, history, no matter the niche or idea, they done it thousands of times, and it got read millions of times, but people will never get bored of it. Vintage is coming back, old is new and new is old.

oh, THAT "behind the scenes". Silly me, I thought something else :p

Yeah, I don't think that that will be a problem. And I think you'll make good money with it, too if advertised and priced properly

Audiobook
Easier to promote
Most users stay plugged in podcasts/Audiobooks while driving
Plus saves you clutter on handling printing & publication

You need traffic to make any sales. As simple as that.

You have 2 options if you want to succeed with this journey:
  • Either find a literary agent (damn hard, and you need at least first 50 pages to even approach them), to get into the spotlight in a more "traditional" way.
  • Or you need to build a solid traffic source to your book. It can be an authority website in your niche, branded social accounts with loyal followers, thread on BHW (though highly questionable for your niche), it can even be paid ads (with the last one it is close to impossible to make positive ROI, considering the book prices and the fact that the seller takes a cut).

By just publishing your book on Amazon and hoping that someone will spot it and buy it and recommend it and whatever, you will not sell more than 10 copies/year.

Anyone here who claims otherwise have never sold any books on Amazon or on other platforms.

Thanks for all the insight so far, appreciate it!
