Is it better to only get likes first before getting followers?

Only getting likes would increase engagement like crazy - and then grow followers organically after that. Seems easier said than done but wonder how many people here actually have tried this?

I'm not sure I understand your question... Do you mean "buying" likes? Those things should be directly correlated. If your follower count is increasing your likes per post should also be increasing...

I have to agree with Kyle here the likes “organically” come after you grow your following. With that said generally as your posting “quality” content as your engagement rise your fans\ followers will follow.
And if your buying likes early on the days of blasting a post to top post or explore with irrelevant likes is long over so that will not work if your trying that angle.
So to sum up yes likes will over time equal followers but more importantly being consistent and persistent is #1

Sorry let me clarify – I meant paying for likes/engagement on your post (via FB ads), with that being the only goal - not to get followers. But I agree with Kyle that those are correlated.

Another way to put it is is it better to have an account with less than 1k followers but with like 5 posts all with >1k likes and comments than having lots of followers with no likes on your posts. I understand days of blasting post to top posts is over, so this would be done through legit IG ads

It just seems the focus is always on buying as many followers as possible through various methods rather than the other way around

That doesn't make any sense, your engagement rate doesn't have to do anything with your follower rate

Yes I mean buying likes.

@ScribScribScrib - I thought the whole point is IG will shadow ban you if you have tons of followers with no engagement, making the account useless? Wouldn't the inverse be true that you'd be highly ranked/recommended if you had a better ratio of engagement/followers
