It's definitely a good idea to create backlink's and adding social signal and comment's on youtube video's it help's to improve your video rank in Youtue.

It's always a good idea to drip feed the backlinks, especially after the google update
 
Like everyone else said, yes. But try and get quality backlinks.
I understand a GSA blast or two, may help rank some videos, but most of the time its a waste.

You should go for quality blogposts if you have the money.
And dont just focus on backlinks either. Comments, Likes, etc are all good too.

I would say that instead of dropping backlinks directly to your video you should build tier 2 links. As dropping backlinks directly to your video may lead it to get deleted. GSA blast will be a nightmare, if you wanna see the negative impact of GSA blast on new video, try with a sample video, create it and blast the GSA.

And you will see your video got DISAPPEARED.
 
Blasting links is not a good idea, but adding quality links is IMHO. :)
 
Yes, you need to build links to your videos at a regular pace as well as adding some social signals.
