if you don't really rely on the image search traffic. would you bother optimize your images?

I do sometimes, when I'm really trying it hard.
But I'd like to know others' opinions too. :)

i did optimized all my sites images to speed up the page load, it's part of the ranking signal i believe

Depends what you are using it for.
most of the images i use are descriptive and not really related the post itself. like when you write a top 10 article and you have 10 paragraphs that have one image each, so you end up with images that describes only one part of the article and not all of it. how would you optimize such an article, would you put your keyword in all of the images. or just put a description of the image itself and not bother with the keyword you're targeting with your article.

What do you mean not to bother with the keyword if you are going to do the image optimization?

We must optimiz images size, name and alt informations for example to be in google image first place ;-)

Depending on your niche, I'd say yes even if you don't primarily use image search traffic. Any extra free traffic is good so might as well optimize your images, it doesn't really take much to do and the extra traffic can be substantial especially if you use long tail keywords.

it all depends on your niche, i do not bother to optimise them most of the times.

It's always worth doing something right. You would not build a house on a sandy foundation and likewise a web property
should be done properly from start to finish. If you only put half in then only expect half out OP. =)
