Hi, so I have been searching on this board for what most people recommend for a good web host and seen a lot of people say to go with Hostwinds. However when I go to the last page on the Hostwinds thread in the marketing section on this board all I see is people complaining about coupons not working anymore, their service being down and not receiving any replies or help from their technical support. I also posted on that thread asking for people's opinions of what was going on with Hostwinds and why all the negative posts with no replies, but like everyone else in the thread I got no reply.

So is Hostwinds still good or is there any still on going problems? And if not what else would you recommend?

There is so many web hosting services out there now the only other one I seen a lot of good opinions about is Stable Host, so thinking to just go with them. Not sure if I need a VPS or if shared is good enough. Mainly for now I am looking to host many different sales and squeeze pages, so I would think the main thing would be to have a stable host with very little down time, with second being the speed to load the potentially large 1 page sales page for all the different sales and squeeze pages I will have.

Thanks

Yes I host there my best sites and I can reccomend them. Their support is really great.

No matter the time or day I open a ticket someone replies to it in under 20 minutes on HW, been great for me

I host there all new sites, support is live 24/7

I have few sites hosted with Hostwinds and they are running perfect. No issues.

I also have few sites hosted with DigitalOcean and are doing great.

Thanks for the replies, I guess just for some reason most people, including Hostwinds them self, are not really paying attention to the thread in the marketplace. So I guess unless someone comes in here and gives a reason why I shouldn't I will give Hostwinds a try.

The only thing I'm not sure about is if I should do VPS or shared for running many different sales and squeeze pages and the hope is the traffic will be from paid and social media, so I don't care about SEO. Could someone maybe enlighten me when you should go with VPS over shared?

I think not. better find a better

Can you expand on why not?

Hello, i am actually user of hostwinds and i can say to you they are great for a lot of type of websites. I for example have all my micro niche websites and my clients websites with them and i cant complain.

My second hosting is a VPS where i host my bigger websites that i first hosted on hostwinds. I have setup my vps with ubuntu 12.04 + nginx ( as web server) + w3 total cache ( i only have wordpress websites)

I saw lots of improvements in loading times and also have way more control over my hosting enviroment.

I have a reseller account with them for about 8 months. Hostwind's customer service is very responsive and uptime is excellent. So 5 stars here.

However, when it comes to email, I share my IP's with other Hostwind customers and they continue to be blacklisted at many providers, e.g. at Verizon, AOL, MSN, Cox. This means, even as my hosted customers and I have never sent spam, our emails to many recipients are blocked and fail with a mailer demon message. I have successfully and repeatedly submitted several blacklist removal requests, but after 8 months I still have the ongoing and recurring email blacklist problem with all domains I host.

To summarize: if you just want to host websites and don't use email, Hostwinds is stellar and I highly recommend them. If you need to send emails from your domains, unfortunately I cannot recommend them.

I had the same issue even with a dedi, however I routed through mandrillapp and never had that problem again.

Thanks for the information and yes that could be a big problem as I'm mainly looking to do email marketing. Would I have the same problem if I got a VPS from them? I don't know if you get your own IP then. Or as oxonbeef said sounds like I can use mandrillapp to get around the problem.
