My autoblogs went down early last week, but they messaged me about a load on the server so I figured it was all of the robot activity and stuff 
. Seems like maybe not. I got them back up shortly after though. So you guys went down without warning or a ticket?

You guys are idiots - get paid for the downtime.....lmao
You pay 10 bucks a month and expect a corporate level SLA, your more doomed than I thought was even possible.
They wont pay you for anything.
As for having backups, unless they provide you with an SLA there is no reason why they would have redundant anything, not only does having a redundant network cost thousands, if not millions because of their size it is nearly pointless when you can swap out a switch within minutes.
The only thing they offer is backups of their data, which if you read your agreement its nothing more than best effort.
If you need no downtime, you better get out your piggy bank and buy a corporate level service and SLA to match.

I had few sites and I was paying 120 bucks/month for shared hosting (SEOhosting). From last 1 month my sites were up & down several times every day for few minutes every time. In start when people complained about it, I thought it may be user's end problem because I was able to open sites. Later on when I was working on site, I found that it's going up & down several times. I tried to get it solved from support but they simply ignored me. BTW sites were no autoblogs...
After several try I finally left hostgator on 28th of last month and bought dedictaed server from some other company. It cost me almost 300 bucks/month but I also got 8X2.8 GHZ, 12 GB Ram, 10k GB Bandwidth, 2X500 GB HDD blah blah... LOL most important any ticket I get reply with in 15 mins, they are managed hosting and very good one.
Overall I will say hostgator doesn't care of it's customer like it used to be. I was using hostgator from last 6-7 years and after last experience it seems I will not come back.
