Guest posts can still be worth it in 2026, but only if they’re on relevant, high-quality sites. Random or low-quality guest posts usually don’t help much. For a new news site, I’d focus on building relationships with niche sites and creating content people actually want to link to it usually gives better long-term results than just chasing links.

Not really. Lots of quality content is actually paid inclusion or guest posted. Just gotta know the right people and or pay the right price.

If you have good budget for quality guest posts, it is going to give good results. You should never compromise with quality while doing guest posts.

Yes agreed, a good budget for quality guest posts leads to better results. Quality should never be compromised in guest posting.

If it's just a news website then relevance is irrelevant for you as you cover a wide range of topics and can post on a weddings site linking to your wedding news article and at the same time post on auto site and link to an auto related article.

I get the point, but I wouldn’t say relevance is completely irrelevant. Even if a news site covers everything, search engines still evaluate the page-level context.

Yes, absolutely, page relevance should be there.... that's why I made it very clear that a weddings site should link to your weddings page, etc.
It'd be odd to link to a casino article from a weddings website.

Quality and relevance > quantity. Always.
