Is google/keyword tool inaccurate?

One of my site's is on first page for 550 million competition ranked for few other keywords as well. One - two visits a day maybe from google.

Now my other site the one I'm trying to make money with is now ranked #1 for my main keyword which supposedly gets an estimated 15k searches a month. And I'm getting 1-2 clicks per day so that would be around 0.25% of the traffic.

Are you using a broad match or an exact match? Exact match is usually pretty accurate but the broad match can be deceptively large.

yup. And even then it's not that accurate, but it's the best we got.

I use the exact word match and have found it is about 1/10 the traffic they say it is. It's very disappointing to have a category that is supposed to be 29,000 and you get 300 visitors per month.

Yeah I think they throw in fake numbers to catch us out now and again. When I was starting out on building MNS sites a couple of years back I came across an archery keyword that had over 100k exact searches a month. I couldn't believe it, the emd was free and I built a site and had it in position one within a month or so.

And when I hit top spot I got 1 or 2 hits a week! Seriously! 3 months later the keyword had changed to <10 .... less than 10. And before anyone says it, it was 100k for exact, I wasn't that new to kw research.

So somewhere along the way they added a few 0's to the stats and it cost me some time and money. I think it's better these days and it's pretty accurate.

I always use common topics rather than niches and micro-niches for this reason. Yeah, they are hard to rank for but with long term effort+ social media traffic things go well.

The only way to accurately answer your question is if you say what your keyword is.

You may not be looking at the correct numbers due to the following reasons:

1) Make sure you are looking at LOCAL and EXACT monthly searches.

2) Are you sure you are #1 ?

Many people think they are number 1 when in reality they are on page 20 and they simply have not deleted their cookies to see the real results.

I have never trusted GAKT. I just use it for comparison purposes. I never take the numbers it gives any weight except for comparative purposes.
