Is Google analytics basically 50% just bots crawling your site?

I mean - I had a look at live analytics and there seems to be a lot of white/ black hat bots coming in...

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure but, I'm pretty sure Google has a site view/timed algorithm in place to identify what visitors may be bots or real people. Based on how long they view the page, if they went to any other parts of the page, or if any links were clicked. Little research on how they calculate traffic may help?

right - so you mean if a bot hits the site for 0.002 seconds then clearly that cant be a human - is that what you meant?

Yes, if someone doesn't seem to match the underlying time span an average "real" user visits a site and instead of just bouncing around to random sites then it probably won't qualify as "legit" traffic.
