Well, it is because my family always run some big local business, and i am now a full time market researcher, i find those information extremely powerful.

For my Family business,
1. Quality service: i have always been a fan of doing service, i have acquire this knowledge from my uni, i usually run some service audit to each of the retail stores.
2. Buyer behavior: i applied this for both online and offline, it is fking important before you enter a niche, i spend a lot of time on researching buyer behavior, because if you understand it well, you can greatly enhance your campaign.
3. Leadership and Management: it is less important at this time now, but i apply some of it knowledge and yes, this course is important to lead the team.
4. Internet for Business: this course helps me on having a general view of big internet marketing company, the way they react and behave is also different compare to us, this one is less useful since not many of them can be implemented by small IMer. but still, it helps you get some idea of how to run an online business.
5. Market Research: at first, i think that this course only give me a general views of market research, but after i work for a year, i realize many thing information in this course is helpful, i started doing quantitative and qualitative research for my company, i mine my data for Marketing campaign.

My point is that knowledge is unlimited, if you just look at famous people like Bill, Mark or Steve, yes they dropped out, buit they dropped out for some particular reason, i understand that many people here are very successful without studying, but that doesn't mean the OP is the same. what if he fails in IM? what if by that time he want a full time 9/5 job? well Mcdonald and KFC will welcome him then.

I personally think going to college is a good thing. Especially, if you can pay for it and not go in debt with loans. It's always a good idea to have a back up plan. Don't put all your eggs in 1 basket.

I agree. I said something similar to this in a thread I made today.

You asked the wrong question at the wrong place Think about it, a lot of people on BHW don't use a college degree in their field. Personally, I think it depends, but you shouldn't go to college to go to college, you should go to learn. I will most likely go to college.

College. nah. anything you can learn there, you can learn faster on your own. If your looking for intelligent peers, there are cheaper ways.

But if you do it, take out loans. Then never pay them back. The ship that is the dollar is sinking anyways. Grab what you can and find a life raft.

Try to go to philippines to study...its very cheap...anyways I want to share something... I have a professor in data communication, discreet math and pc maintenance subjects.. to be honest i really get bored listening and got very sleepy when im in class, and he gave me a deal that i dont need to come to his subject but I will need to create him a wordpress website. I downloaded a theme then upload it, and give it to him. now he have a website. i guess I passed those 3 subjects...

anyway my proffersor only have a slight idea about wordpress...

It all boils down to what your values at the end of the day.

If you want to focus on making money then you really don't need college, the IM forums are flooded with more than enough information to achieve wealth.

That having been said, I'd recommend the college experience if you want to build a better mind, experience life, different cultures, party, make lots of friends, & have stories you'll remember and tell for life then go to college it's nothing short of amazing.

I think college is a great place to meet like minded individuals that you would never meet in high school. You might even develop strong friendships and lifelong bonds, which can tremendously help you down the road.

College is good for doctors, dentists, and STEM (science, tech, engineering, math) degrees.

If you just want to be in business, I don't see the point.

Teach yourself programming if you're a programmer (because if you can't, you're not a programmer).

Take community college classes if your high school failed at teaching you English and math or if you are an immigrant.

The degree is for (A) people who cave into the peer pressure to attend, (B) people who don't know what to do with their lives, (C) idiots who think history is a really cool subject, and (D) people who want a 9-5 job that has very specific credentialing requirements. The only good investment is (D), but only if that is your personality type and desired work.

As to companies not wanting a degree for a job, that's not true. It's extremely competitive to get a job, so if you're applying for a job, you might fall under (E), people who need a job because they can't go into business for themselves. Those people should still get STEM degrees, or Economics/Accounting/Business if they can't take the rigor.

Also there is a difference between a state school that leaves you with $20,000 of debt and a private school that saddles you with $120,000. The latter and the former can lead to similar income, so... about 100 grand difference.

I will never understand these people. I am in my last year of college and its been the best 4 years of my entire life. Not to mention I do IM on the side which makes plenty of coin so I do not need to get a job.

To be honest I think simply making the thread has already answered your question. You say the Indians are more determined to succeed, and you're right. Same with Japanese and Chinese. They are simply more focused then we are. However you also dont see them saying "Is school worth it", For them it is a natural step, they don't mess around they just get on with the work and do it.

Us westerners are lazy. If you disagree with me then go to college and prove me wrong.

I would suggest you still go, get a business degree and use that to go into your online money making worlds, you would be qualified enough to have a aura of Authority that most people don't have today.

Recently I had to make the decision. I had been abroad in Europe, where I met my wife, and I could go back to school this fall and take more education in mathematics, or I could devote myself to my business. I had started the application to get back to university a year ago, but increasingly I saw that I had no interest in the job market and would rather use my limited time to improve my business. The cost of taking 3 years away from developing products and improving what I already have was too tremendous, not to mention that my heart was not in it.

It was a choice, and I could not choose both. Going to school and doing business part time would just show lack of commitment and disrespect to the time of myself and my family. Choose something and pursue it wholeheartedly.

No one answer is going to be correct for everyone, and everyone is going to want to justify their investment (or lack of) once they're already sunk into it (except the poor grads flipping burgers or collecting unemployment ).

I went to college and graduated in 2010 into a terrible jobs economy. In the time that followed, I got a series of jobs that really had nothing to do with my college degree in marketing at all. Since I've been laid off from my last job, I decided to start working on IM full time and i'm getting more experience in marketing now then the jobs my degree ever got me. So no, I don't think in the case of marketing anyway that its necessary to go to college but each person probably has a different story.

From a personal viewpoint, I've never been in a position where I've gone "damn, if only I had furthered my studies, I'd be better off right now". Do what you love, choose what you think is best for you. If you are confident you can survive without the extra education, then all the better to you.

Not really, in my opinion.

The exception being unless you need a degree to get in a field you love.

Get a hobby, get great at it, and you can make more money with a legit website and marketing than you would with most degrees.

Barring that, there's infinite ways to earn a better living without a job than having one in the first place.
