Is getting backlinks to a new article immediately after posting risky?

I just created some pillar content and im wondering if I should wait a while before I start building backlinks to it, or is it ok to do right away?

Short answer - no. So long as google has indexed your article so they know how to associate original autorship with - you should be fine - ooodles of places syndicate their content/get linked to almost immediately and it doesn't hurt them.. think CNN...

No it's not, in fact in reality your new post can go viral and can get a hundreds of backlinks right?

Yeah, makes sense. Google is pretty stupid with a lot of their ideas and methods, so I just wanted to ask :)
 
If the domain is less then month old i would not try building too many links. If its more then 3 months old, you can build any number of links, no issues.
 
As much as you can build is totally fine. Big agencies gets lots of backlinks within minutes of posting
 
It is okay to start the link building for your new content. make sure those backlinks are from high authority niche related domain. Don't use cheap backlinks then you will have to face issues.

I used to add links before publishing the article, I do not see any problem yet.

IMO it's not good idea to get backlinks for the articles published a few days back, at least wait for weeks/ month also build relevant and quality backlinks.
 
Let your article get indexed first.
Try to promote it through social media and drip feed link building.
Don't throw all backlinks at a time.
Build quality backlinks at Tier 1.
