I want to create custom WordPress themes from scratch but it's very difficult to maintain the code functions as WordPress rapidly updates.

It seems that Genesis is a solid framework to base the WordPress site on.

My doubt is could we create various child themes (I don't mean just simple child themes as blogging) such as to integrate more functions, options, and many things which we could do with custom theme that we build from scratch?

    Thanks!

Yeah -- you need to learn all the "hooks" and stuff, but its pretty great otherwise.

I use Cobalt Apps theme - it's great.
The only problem with building theme based on Genesis based on Wordpress is having to purchase the Genesis theme as well as the child theme.
