I have a review site which I used a fictional character for and the reviews are not based on personal experience.
In fact, they were written by article writers.

I used to promote the site by guest posting and commenting years ago and I actually made some sales with it.
I stopped promoting it due to lack of time and interest. I am however, back in business and I was wondering if what I am going to do is basically deceiving people, so I can make profit out of it.

I have a "Disclaimer" link at the bottom of the page and it goes to a page which says:
John Doe is a fictional character.
The product reviews published on this website are not based on personal experience.
Some or all of the comments have been added to the posts by the webmaster and are fictional.

Still, when I am promoting the site behind a fictional character, it does not feel right (?)

    What do you think?

90% of the internet is either an illusion, or a delusion.
You have at least a visible disclaimer on your site :). I'd say go for it with a peace of mind!

I can't see any problem with this, you are honest, your visitors will make up their own minds. Most people use mobiles and skim text, I doubt if any will even notice
