What is the proper way to link exchange?
I have a "Friends" section in my website that links a bunch of other niche similar sites that I link exchanged. Is this considered bad? How many can I have before i get penalized?

Link exchange can be a slippery slope if not handled right. Big G's algo is smart enough to spot excessive reciprocal links, which can look unnatural and manipulate rankings. It's all about balance.

If the pattern is identified by Google, it will punish your website for sure. There are no exact numbers, just don't overdo it and build some guest post links, niche edits, relevant pbn links, and other sources to diversify your backlink profile.
