It's still important in the long run. If your project isn't churn n burn, then in the long run your EMD will get a great boost for your brand. But for quick projects it's no longer useful, as websites are taking 6 months to a year to get out of the EMD sandbox.

what about if the EMD is long, can i remove some of the key words and make it shorter (with the same key words) will that be still like a EMD or?

EMD does not matter much, just purchase a old expired domain that is partial match.

That way you avoid having to wait a few months to rank and the name is niche related + it has some links to it already.

well i already found a perfect domain name but i made it a bit shorter, i had to use like 4 5 key words to be a EMD but i made it a 3 key word domain name, i think it should be just fine ( i was just wondering coz everyone is talking about EMD.... )

It depends on your project, but I would stay from EMDs these days. Just get a good brand name.

Doesn't matter OP. I've ranked sites quite well with brandable domains.

Personally I don't like EMDs or even PMDs much anymore. You certainly don't need them to rank. I try to think of things I could also add in the future. Adding content onto an existing site that is already aged and ranking is quicker than starting a brand new site from scratch.

If you limit yourself with an EMD your CTR will suck if you try to add more to the site later on.

EMDs still have some effect on your rankings, although the effect is not as significant as it once was.

I don't think EMD works anymore. both brand and non brand names works same way.

doesn't matter anymore in terms of SEO, but they sell very well as domains, right keywords fetch good money.

Depends on the niche and competition I think. I had an emd that was 3 long ish words and it ranked on the first page pretty much straight away with hardly any content. Ranking another emd at the moment 3 keyword again but much shorter and in different niche with a lot of competition and I'm not even in the top 100 yet.

Do you think there is an emd sandbox or do you just think most site have enough brand/emd anchor text by that point for Google to think it's become a brand name. Eg people are searching for best uk cars the brand instead of best uk cars the query

EMD is important to give you a ranking boost as it has both seo and branding advantages.

I had 2 emd's last year that ranked very well with hardly any links. But they both died proabaly 9 monhts ago.
So its a dead strategy on these 2 examples.
