Like if I sold something and after shipping it, is it possible Im going to get chargedback and lose my item?

Does that happen a lot? Or somethingbto worry about?

Also, is there any sort of waiting period for receiving payment after making a purchase? I seemed to remember something a long time ago where they would hold your funds for 3 weeks.

You're ALWAYS vulnurable to charge back or empty box return scams when you're selling on eBay or anywhere else online. A good rule of thumb is if you absolutely can't afford to lose the item, don't sell it online. Some niches like phones, electronics, and collectibles have way way way more scammers than something like office supplies. You can drastically reduce your chances of getting scammed if you know paypal and ebay rules inside out, since scammers are depending on you not knowing the loopholes. Paypal may slap a 21 day hold on your funds at any time from the time of payment until funds are available.

Ebay mostly sides with the buyer most of the time. Its good idea to have documents/proof of inventory

I have had 4 chargebacks in about the last year or so for between $30 to $35 per item. So far paypal has covered me under seller protection for each one and I did not lose money. Of course the scammer doing the chargebacks got their money as well. Each chargeback claim was for unauthorized transaction.

I print all my labels through Ebay so I would provide a screen shot of the order details as well as the shiipping label details to paypal. This showed the buyers confirmed address in Ebay that I shipped to and also showed that it matched the confirmed address in the paypal transaction. I state this fact when responding to the case in paypal and offer to forward any emails or provide any other information that they may need. On a couple of occasions I also mention that if this truly was an unauthorized transaction, why was it sent to the cardholders confirmed address and not somewhere else.

So far this has worked for me in avoiding any loss to these scams. As I said I always ship with tracking and print the labels through Ebay. I do not know if there is a limit to how many claims paypal will cover or if there is a limit to the dollar amount. I would think not as long as you follow all of the guidelines for both Ebay and Paypal sellers.
Higher dollar amounts would probably call for more scrutiny from paypal but their claim to fame is both buyer and seller protection and they have not failed me yet. Crossing my fingers.

As toml3030 said: "If you can't afford to lose it, don't sell it online"... Good luck.

Thank you guys for the help!

@Old Dog and @Deutsch69 -- Sorry for the dumb question, but is it still possible to do tracking if I'm using dropshipping? (aliexpress specifically) -- Like would I be able to try and fight like you did? (when I'm not personally the one sending it?)

Just to add there is always a chance of getting screwed over. You need to always make sure you have your ducks in a row from tracking and delivery of package. Beyond that it can be a ridiculous game. I once had someone purchase a used car amplifier from me that was working as a replacement for their damaged amp. They waited 4 days and requested a refund stating what I sent them didn't work. I know the guy was going to send me his broken amp. A month later I'd gotten my money back.

Paypal and eBay can be strange in regard to their treatment of sellers changes everyday. Good luck.

Almost all reputable drop shippers should offer shipment method that can be tracked. The only exemption would be for low cost items you're selling at huge markup (500%+) so you can eat losses from an occasional scammer.
