Is Eastern Europe Comparable to India?

I DO NOT want to start a political debate here.

I am a 22 year old student and I live in Calcutta, India. It is one of the most poorest and underdeveloped Metro Cities in India (Reason - 35 years of communist rule. The communist state government finally got kicked from power only 2 months ago.). Though, compared to Eastern Europe, even Calcutta's economy is booming!

Now, some of the good points of India include -
- VERY LOW cost of living. You can live like a king with a monthly income of $2000. All foreign goods and cars, starting from electronics to Ferrari and Porsche are available. I don't see Ferraris in Calcutta, but I can see plenty of Mercedes S class here. In cities like New Delhi and Mumbai, Ferraris and Porsches are not a big deal.

- Low crime rate. You will never see ordinary gun crimes like in the US here, only hardcore criminals and the ultra rich have guns.

- Low tax rate. And you can easily avoid paying full tax .

- Cities like New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa are very modern, with a vibrant economy. Posh localities have infrastructure comparable to that of the west.

After a couple of years, I would like to move out of Calcutta. If I have a successful IM business, I am trying to decide that whether I should move to New Delhi/Mumbai or to a Eastern European country like Latvia/Romania/Poland.

What are your suggestions?

I just shifted to Kolkata from a nearby city (200 KMs away). Most underdeveloped city, so true lol. Will be moving to New Delhi within a few months.

Anyone else nearby?

Bro.. At least be Proud of Kolkatta as its a Part of World Heritage. But yes I heard its not so developed in compare to other Indian Metro Cities.

I am not Indian But have a Soft-corner for Kolkatta.

I'm not really sure what Indias living standards are but.. eastern europe can be really nice place if you have money. It's the same everywhere really.. Some places just are cheaper to live on tho, especially if you get to know the locals and accept their help to look apartments and other stuff. Personally, I like to spend time in south east asian region like China, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia. But I have also spent time in Ukraine and other eastern european countries. Difference is mostly the girls, in europe you find tall blonds

I'm originally from Latvia, and I'd say you might find it hard to integrate there, as not many people speak English, and the Latvian language would be a pain in the ass to learn, really. Poland is pretty much the same (have lived there for a year).

Why not the good old UK everybody from eastern europe is trying to come here so why not bypass east and come straight to west.

I visited Poland, I went and lite a candle at the wll of rememberance, was stunned at price of property much cheaper in parts of UK.

In Romania you can get 120Mbps down for about 21USD/15EURO/13.1GBP a month,and since Bucharest is located a few hours from Bulgaria you can register your company there and pay 10% tax.And you can get an apartment for about 490USD/350EURO/309GBP a month if you search online in Romanian instead of English. And currently about 30% of the population speaks english,and that % is growing greatly.

In my city rent for a good 1 BHK flat will be maximum 100$/month.

I currently live in Eastern Europe and I am from Mumbai (Bombay). I would say you better stick to India as our economy is growing as opposite to theirs. Also it is quite difficult to adapt to the language here. Not many expats around and definately not many Indians.

Also Eastern Europe has a lot of Roma population. So expect some racism time and again. It is not their fault it is just that since Eastern Europe was under communist rule for such a long period that they have never seen brown people apart from the Roma who live here. Also food could be a BIG problem if you are a Hindu (No Beef and Pork) for us.

As far as the girls go. Yeah they are the best looking one in the world. Better move to Goa or Thailand and enjoy paradise

Ps: I am not interested to argue with anyone here. Just my two cents since I have been living here on and off since last 4 years or so

I would say that eastern Europe is much more developed, BUT the crime rates are very high!

Immigration to UK from outside EU is too difficult these days. I can understand, the locals are unhappy about outsiders taking up their jobs. But I am not interested in a job anyway. Wherever I am, I will do business anyway, online or offline (I prefer online, ie, IM).

The only way I can think about moving to UK is -
Completing my CA course, then taking the membership of ICAEW (The English CA Institute) after passing 3 additional papers. Once I become a recognised CA in UK, I can visit UK to attend conferences and then maybe work out some contacts... I can see a very long and hard road in front of me.
Anyone got any easier idea for migrating to UK (places like north Ireland or Wales will do fine for me). I just damn want to leave this crappy city.

The reason why it is "hard" to learn some languages is because the courses are designed to make you stay as possible to milk as much money from you. Think about how you learned your first language, and use a similar way to learn your second language,and you will learn it fast.

Also don't stay within your own community all the time,I've noticed that people that immigrate to the U.S. and do this have a hard time learning English, compared to people that don't.

rofl ,this is from a guy whom lives in the US (especialy Chicago) which is world famous for shooting and gang crime

Well Eastern Europe is very clean compared to India and there is far less poverty. Also, 99% of people have a very good education.

My advice is to stick to countries where a lot of people can speak English, because as you'll find Eastern Europeans are not friendly to foreigners who are not white. Racism is a very big thing in Eastern Europe because it is a 99% white society.
