Most directory submission sites are spammed to death, hence they won't contribute to your site's rankings.

Directory submissions only help your site get spidered. Their link weight is negligible.

Quality & Relevancy Always matter for google if you use quality relevant directory ofcourse it will helpful

Oh, another thing is to check the traffic. Sometimes it is a high ranked blog in India or Bangladesh, but not the US if that's the country you are targetting and you will get traffic that isn't related to your content and google will take notice.

It's a good method as part of an overall strategy.

If you work in and analyse the top ranked sites in several industries you will see directory submission is used frequently.

hell yea, some sites i have on findlaw, justia, nolo, lawyers.com and yes they are costly but it ranks my site like crazy. but as far as those cheap php directories, i dont think so....yellowpages still gives us lots of traffic and calls.

if u had a dental client you would definitely want your client to get into 800dentist, a directory.
