ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain) can be very important, or not so important. It depends on your purpose;
If you are hosting semi-DMCA/flatout DMCA content, a ccTLD is important to save your skin and prevent possible domain takedown/takeover. You would then not be liable for any punishment regarding copyright acts in the country where there is no such act. (see ICANN)
If you spam, TLD is very important for your liability. Mexico for example have no current spam laws so a .mx domain wouldn't get you the same liability, host-wise (otherwise spam is based on place of operation) (see ICANN)
For privacy/anonymity protection, a TLD is everything. there is few ccTLDs which doesn't even have a public whoIs, or no need for any personal identifiable information. Such as .ro or .cd requires only a NameServer specified. The rest is blank.
And the list goes on....
So if you rank a movie site, best guess would be domain extension from a country where DMCA is not recognized, such as .bz (Belize), .ch (Switzerland), .sh (Saint Helena).
Or do a smarter move and get a domain belonging to one of the few jurisdictions notorious for never complying with US requests; .ru (Russia), .cn (China). But Chinas TLD is heavily regulated so I wouldn't recommend it.
To conclude it: If you host anything questionable such as blackhat content, avoid any extension domain belonging to Verisign because they are obliged under US law.
Otherwise, all clean, go for .com, .net etc because they are greately recognized everywhere by everyone.
