is content really the KING?

I'd say keyword research and getting something written before your competition is far more important. For an example, in one of the niches I'm in with a big whitehat site, I have a few competitors ranking above my site with 150 to 300 words long articles that are really-really bad for some keywords.

I agree with you somewhat yes Kw research is important this is first priority, it should be taken very seriously, the onpage aspect is also one not to misjudge although you could get away with it in weak competitions, even with 0 content like a meme type flash based site.

I got a multitude of sites ranked against medium to high competition, I can tell you content is not king, people always blindly follow the hype just like a flock of sheeps or even when 10 people pointing in some direction the 11th person would point with them just like how fishes shoal together its human nature.

Hmm this is my experience! We have local news blog and few good journalists there is no better content for my keyword (the city). I was waiting and waiting and nothing happened before doing some backlink building by myself. So the content is not the king :)

Constant fresh content is a factor in ranking. Stop blogging if you don't believe me and see how fast your rankings on your blog drop. Eventually Google will realize it's dead and ignore it mostly.

Not really. I have a site thats almost a year old with no added content for 8+ months and its climbing in serps fast. New backlinks are added daily so that maybe the reason its working.

You Offcourse Content is King For White hat SEO, Without Content White Hat SEO Incompleted..

He said it is a factor, which YES it is. Content is a major ranking factor.

In combination, sharable quality niche specific content which is written by people who have more than a 5 minute understanding of a topic and where the author can reply high quality comments directly relating to the article in depth... That is King!!!

Maybe its more of the baseline and not the "King". And Shareability, On site Seo and Off Site SEO are just growth factors for making the content more effective at getting and converting traffic.

Overall Quality is King
Quality Backlinks are Queen.

Quality Content is a bulletproof shield protecting them.

I'm not talking about some authoritative parasites here, I'm talking only about new sites owned by anyone.

I don't expect for any content even things written by greatest writers in the world, even professional writers, journalist who would charge as much as $40 per 100 words minimum to have this golden content suddenly majestically be ranking no1 for its main term. this will never happen not without any type of backlinking or social outreach in place whitehat (spamming like a human).Sure sure I know longtails are there you can stick with that if that makes some you folks happy...

Longtail keywords can bring alot of traffic to a site, and if the content is of very good quality the people will stay on the site to read more of it and other articles. I myself prefer getting many long tail keywords first before focusing on the Big keywords. I can always add backlinks to the articles.

I know what you mean, this is something most do its just a snails pace of doing things sticking with one site :), I work in quantities this does not mean quality isn't there I spend lots on pure quality shareable content written by professional writers.

Now back to the original topic content alone is not king

it's not the only the content that is the king, but the author. If you get a well written article, written by a well ranked author (lots of writings, G+ connected, Google search optimization for author, other social media) - you got yourself a winning article. I think the key is having good author profile, and that's sort of like a circle - good content ->better writer -> good SEO -> back to good content and following.

Quality content is half the battle, but you still need to work out a promotion strategy

Content is always king, but quality backlinks will always be the Godfather when it comes to ranking.

"A person who doesn't spend time on his site can never be an IM'er" or something like that.

Honestly, my site which isn't even a month old is getting some traffic and i've posted about 10 articles, so it's a matter of both! You need both quality content and some quality backlinks.

Backlinks no Content = Penalty
Content no Backlinks = Smaller traffic
Backlinks with Content = Win!

It's a stretch these days to say that "content is king". What's really king is "context".

Google is smart, it understands the purpose of content - much like Yelp can detect fake reviews simply by their word choice. When writing content your intent can't be strictly for SEO purposes.

Yes, there are SEO considerations you should take into consideration when building your content, but if you really want to win then contextual content that is user-centric and adds value to the user experience is what you want to build.

Don't forget that things like CTR, bounce rate and even time on site (compared against industry averages) do come into consideration for SEO. If you want to have a real win then you want to deliver an experience to the readers.

Don't skimp when it comes to content, no hiring monkeys on typewriters. Hire professionals and get it done right!

content = poor
content + default backlinks = good
content + default backlinks + social signals = perfect
content + default backlinks + social signals + page seo = win
