Is content really important to SEO?

Engaging content keeps users on your website for longer and encourages them to interact with your content. Search engines see this as a positive signal.
Take your website as a store and your content as the products on the shelves. Even if you have a great location (technical SEO), if your shelves are empty (no content) or filled with irrelevant items (poor quality content), customers (website visitors) won't be interested and won't come back (low ranking).
 
Most countries are like this. This is Google's algorithm

It's needed, but it doesn't have to be good or accurate. What you need is filler content + backlinks. Website with accurate content and no backlinks will rank lower than ai generated (or even fake) content with backlinks.
 
We decided to move away from content strategies as a big bet is not worth betting on. But this is the case with online stores.
 
Content is extremely important for SEO, without it search engines won't have enough information to index your pages correctly and help you rank.

For a difficult keyword, you definitely need a domain that is trustworthy in search engine point of view. For easy keywords, you can get you site ranked with various SEO practices. And the method you explained is also working because there is good content on that old website, already published and earned search engine trust.

Content is the 1# factor to rank your website. Back links are the #2.
