Content is king is a lovely thought.

It's entirely wrong and since people these days are terrified of backlinks it's a line of thought that many have been sucked into.

Links are king - by a helluva long way.
Not same links made the same way as 4 years ago - but links all the same.

Yeah I've been thinking that myself! I have a legit ecommerce site whose rankings have been steadily dropping in the past months against competitors who are using adwrds then I get a call at work "hey I'm a Google sales representative, do you use adwords? if not bad, bad, bad! I'll send someone over to explain why!" I just told them to GTFO! thx BHW!!

content might be the king but without the subjects, throne and the throne the kingship will just be in vain. it needs more than the title. You can have good content but with poor backlinks, hosting and promotions , it will be useless. they all work together with a common goal of success.

Good content is just common sense, but it certainly isn't king.

That sounds like some bullshit sales pitch.
