I have been noticing a lot of discussions lately about Google rewarding content quality more than backlinks. But in real-world white hat SEO, do you think publishing great content consistently is enough to rank or do backlinks still play a major role? What’s working best for you this year?

ccreating a new site on an aged domain with niche-related backlinks is one sure way to start and boost your site in serps

that continues to work, but sometimes its a gamble due to expensive domains and uncertainty of ranking

High-quality content helps
but strong backlinks still make a difference
both are needed for best results.

From what I’ve seen, backlinks still matter but only when paired with solid content and good on-page SEO. Google’s updates seem to favor topical authority more than raw link numbers now. Consistency in quality content helps long-term, but a few strategic links can still make a big difference. What’s been your experience so far?

I focus 70% on creating 'Link-Worthy' Content, like original data studies or definitive guides and 30% on actively promoting it to get those natural backlinks. Just publishing fresh content and praying doesn't work anymore.

You can rank for some low-competition stuff with content alone, but for anything serious, you still need the backlinks to win.

Backlinks are still the most important any factor that determine ranking. It should be supported with good content.

Great content is super important, but backlinks still move the needle. I’ve seen pages with solid content just sit there until a few quality links pushed them up.

Consistently publishing high-quality content helps, but backlinks still play a key role organic, relevant links combined with strong content work best for ranking.

Great content still matters a lot in 2025, but it’s not enough on its own for competitive keywords. Content can rank without links only in low-competition niches. For anything mid or high competition, backlinks, brand signals, and authority still make a big difference.

For me, the best results come from strong content + solid internal linking + a few quality links, not content alone.

Good content helps, but on its own it rarely ranks in competitive niches. I’ve seen the best results when strong content is combined with a few quality backlinks and good internal linking. It’s more of a mix rather than ‘content only.

In 2025, content is no longer a monarch ruling with absolute power. It's more of a constitutional monarch whose power is checked and balanced by other critical factors like context, distribution, and user experience.

I think the two complement each other. Both are necessary. Imagine there's no Google, you write quality content, and because your content is high-quality, you get backlinks. This is the natural progression.

Quality content is more likely to be shared, driving organic traffic and potentially earning new backlinks.
