Is car unnecessary expense ?

Short answer - yes. Depending on where you live you might as well be faster using public transportation.

If you are a car guy and get joy from driving, then it's irrelevant though.

OP, it's probably the best investment you can make, don't listen to these people saying "car is a waste of money". Buy a good budget car if you don't want to spend a lot of money.
Car is probably the best investment you can make. I hate two wheelers so much, no comfort, tiny seats, no music, no AC..!
How can someone even drive a two wheeler in 40°C????????
Insane. Car is best

I wish we had leasing options like western countries.
In US you can get a bmw 330i for $500 a month where as in india it's almost $2000 a month and that too is very hard if you don't have a decade old business and a steady Tax return. Why we Indians are so unlucky??

It really depends on where do you live. I live in London in a quite centrish place with close public transportation options, I do not need car at all. I arrive most of the place earlier with subway/metro than a car.

But previously I was living in Sweden and Austria; even the capitals are not so busy so if you have a car you are having a better life there.

Another important factor is also if you have a family or not and how much do you travel with them. Especially for families like 3+ members will be happier with a car comfort rather than travelling and paying for a public transportation.

on demand transportation is booming
scooters, cars, motorbikes
if it is not for children and their safety one can easily travel ondemand rent/taxi and that will only increase going forward

yes, it's a unnecessary expense along with two wheeler, home, furniture, clothes -everything is pretty much useless and unnecessary. So give all you own to the needy ones who needs the most.

I am an ignorant American, but why are so many people talking about two wheelers? Are these for fun or for transportation?

Not at this moment, but generally; yes. Right now, using private transport is probably the best thing you could do to save yourself from covid19. Plus the fuel is cheaper in most of the countries.

It depends from person to person.
For a person who needs to travel quite often, a utility car wud be his/ her second home but in an urban setting personal car would be a burden.

I think if your car has a justified utility even if it is for show-off and u justify it then car is a necessary expense otherwise don't even think of buying one.

With kids, an absolutely necessary expense.

Depends on where you live. Public transport can be faster and often a more racial choice within city limits. If you live in a remote place and you want to travel, you can't really avoid having a car.

full of scammers lol

I think it strongly depends on where you live and how much you need get arount.

I live about 10km from closest town/city and public transport isn`t really an option here.

I recently got my drivers licence and if school starts again in autumn, then a car will pretty much be necessary for me so I don`t have to take car from parents/they don`t have to drive me everywhere. So I`m trying to make some money to put in car`s budget.

On the other side if I lived in a city center, I would probably not consider a car, because public transport or going by feet would be more convinient.
