Is buying old domain a good link building strategy?

I saw some heavy linked domains in my niche and other niches with really nice links and backlinks and some old advertising but they were expired, is it a good way to buy them and put a landing on them that connects to my website? How can it be effective?
And also buying and selling these domains can be profitable?

Buying expired domains with good link profiles can be a solid strategy, it's something I've done in the past with decent results. The key is to make sure the domain's history is clean and the links are relevant to your niche, otherwise it's not worth the effort. What I've seen work well is redirecting the expired domain to a relevant page on your main site, it helps pass on the link equity and can give your site a bit of a boost. The silo idea makes sense but in this case, a simple redirect is often enough, just make sure to set up a 301 redirect to preserve the link juice. It's also possible to flip these domains for a profit, but it's not as easy as it used to be, you need to have a good understanding of the market and what buyers are looking for. Landing pages can work too, but they need to be high-quality and relevant to the domain's original content, or it's just a waste of time.

Buying expired domains with strong backlinks can pass value, but only if the domain is clean, relevant, and still trusted. If you just throw up a landing page and redirect it, Google often ignores most of the equity especially if the topic does not match or the site history looks manipulated. Where it’s more effective is rebuilding the domain (even partially), keeping its original niche and structure, then linking contextually or doing page-to-page redirects. That keeps the signals natural.

As for flipping domains, yes it can be profitable but only if you know how to spot real authority vs fake metrics. A lot of expired domains look strong on the surface but have spammy or dead link profiles underneath.

So overall: it’s a high-skill, medium-risk strategy now not a shortcut.

Buying old domains with good links can work, but only if you build a real website on them first, not just a quick page. Google is smart now, it sees cheap tricks and punishes them. As for selling domains for profit, yes, some people make money, but it's like hunting for treasure. Most old domains are worthless. Unless you really know what you're doing, you're better off growing your own site step by step.

Yes, buying expired domains can work. But only if you do it properly. The value comes from their existing backlink profile and history. If the domain is clean, relevant to your niche, and still has live/quality links, it can pass value.

Simply throwing a landing page and redirecting it can work short term, but it’s often weaker and riskier. A better way is to rebuild the site (or a relevant version of it) and link out naturally, so it looks legit.

Also, be careful, many expired domains have spammy or toxic backlinks, so always check history and links before buying.

It can work if the domain is clean and still relevant to your niche. I'd check the backlink profile and past history first, since some expired domains carry problems. Relevance usually matters more than just old metrics.

quality links provide more juice than an old domain .

Domain flipping is profitable like any other business but you need to have the knowledge and understand the trade. If you buy an abused domain, it'll never rank anywhere. The link profile means nothing when the domain is abused.

Find domain names that already have links with the specific anchor text you're looking for, so the links are on topic to your site.

Buying old domain can still work ,but only if the domain is clean and relevant to your niche .If the backlinks are natural, the domain has real history. And it was not used for spam before, It can help with authority and referral traffic.
