Blog comments are not much helpful for seo point of view now. But you can still drive direct traffic to site through them and make good money like for an affiliate based site .

Blog comments still help if they're real and relevant sites. I wouldn't do them just for backlinks though.

mostly useless for direct ranking but they still have a place for indexing. if you have web 2.0s or parasites that arent crawling, blasting them with some auto approve blog comments usually nudges google to index them. wouldnt waste time doing manual comments for link juice though, way too slow and not worth the effort.

Blog comments alone won't move rankings much, but they can still be worthwhile if they're on relevant, active websites and add genuine value.
I see them as a way build visibility and referral traffic than as a strong link-building strategy.

I prefer getting links naturally from relevant blogs industry sites, resource pages and geniune community discussions. they are usually more valuable than hundreds od random cmment links.

You can drive traffic through the comments. They are not so good for SEO purposes though. What is your niche?

Blog comments are not dead. they are just done wrong by almost everyone.
99% of people do it wrong way, dropping generic "great article" comments on random blogs with a link in the URL field, that is worthless. Google ignores it. has done for years.
but here is the case where it still makes sense.
You find a genuinely relevant article in your exact niche. High traffic, real audience, active comments section. You read the whole thing. You write a comment that adds something the article didn't cover. A real insight, a different angle, a useful example. Something the readers actually benefit from seeing.
That comment gets approved. real people read it. Some click your link. That's referral traffic from a relevant audience in your niche. that has real value.
The problem is nobody does this properly because it's hard work for a small return. Finding the right article alone takes 20 minutes. Writing a genuinely useful comment takes another 10. For one nofollow link with maybe 50 people clicking it.
So the honest answer is yes it works if you do it right. but the effort to reward ratio is so low that almost every other free link strategy gives you better results for the same time investment.

Blog comments can still be useful in 2026, mainly for referral traffic and brand visibility.. but they are not a strong primary link building method.
For free links focus on relevant niche directories... business profiles... forums... social profiles and resource pages. Quality and relevance matter more than link quantity.

Blog comments still have their place but I wouldnt rely on them alone. They are better as part of a diversified link profile.

Yes, they're good for diversifying your link profile and gaining some referral traffic. But don't use it alone as a main backlink source.
If you are about to use it on a new site, you can focus on adding more high quality backlink options like guest posts, brand mentions, niche edits, etc from relevant sites.

it's not worth it. The comment section probably already has tons of comments anyway. Social bookmarking and profile links are free. While they won't rank your website, they'll help in some aspects.

Depends on how you use it. Random spam comments won't help, but genuine comments on niche related blogs can be useful.

Blog comments are still okay for link diversity and referral traffic, but I wouldn't rely on them for rankings. In my opinion, niche relevant guest posts, forums, and quality profile links are better free options.
