.edu links... if 100% were Tumblr links would have been more relevantI've Tried after seeing tons of thread for Tumblr Dead.
Was Eager To Test Out
MY RESULTS:
I've used 3 Keywords (High, Med & Low Respectively)None of them got SERP....
1. Got 3 different Tumblr Blogs:
2. Metrics (PA: 25+, UR: 10+, PR: 2)
3. Got 3 different Articles (Not Spun) used them as Tier 1.
4. 5 Edu Links for High Comp Keyword and 200 GSA Blog Comments.
5. 2 Edu Links for Mid Comp Keyword and 200 GSA Blog Comments.
6. 1 Edu Link for Low Comp Keyword and 10 Manual Comments.
Serp Movement:
High Comp Keyword: From None to #102
Medium Comp Keyword: From None to #39
Low Comp Keyword: From None to #12
I guess, you can figure out Ans from this

What you did is rank a bunch of high PA Tumblr blogs. Basically,it is parasite seo.
What the OP means to ask is whether tumblr blogs still pass rank juice,which is not what your test is about.
Pretty sure meta refresh will not have any effect on how the tumblr blogs rank themselves.The question is will they still rank money sites?
Building up a few to test this thing out.Will update with the results.

I'm looking over my Tumblr accounts, and while my posts have this new meta refresh now, my custom templates with external links are still all normal. I make my posts and those links on my templates multiply my backlinks.
I am not going to stop my ways until I see this have a negative effect, it's too soon to be worried. Thank you to those who will be doing more in-depth testing tho, I will be watching out for the reports.

Conclusion is as always. Test the shit before jumping to conclusion.
On not so serious note: tumblr is dead for seo. Go back to sleep.
On another not so serious note: if any of you got the time to test (and share the results) tumblrs as tier 1, after this meta refresh update, I will provide a few dozens for test. Don't contact me if you haven't ranked anything yet or if you only want a freebie.

i also find tumblr with PR 4,5,6 but when i register them, i always see it's taken.

You can't register them because those blogs weren't deleted willingly by their owners.
Instead if they are dead and not available for registration it means that tumblr banned them. In this case they never make the usernames available.

Maybe one day they will change their minds and release them. Let's hope that happens, eventually.

It will be too late: they'll have 1 PA
However Tumblr is still useful for SEO, I have half dozens on a low competition kw and I'm #2. It's still a valuable backlink
