I was looking various forums and discussion and most people talk about back links. Recently I was reading an article in Google webmaster and they said that having a backlinks in well known or valuable site will not be given priority as it was before. It also advised that you need to write lots of content and I mean it lots of added value content. I wish I had link to the post, but I do not seem to find it now.
Please don't take this post negatively, I am up for advice and suggestions the best to promote because that Google article made me confused.

No they are not dead.

It's getting more complex and competitive out there, that's for sure but backlinks (what creates authority) are still very very important.
 
Just writing lots of content alone doesn't look very good in the eyes of Google. Consider this,

Website 1. 100 posts 300 back links
Website 2. 800 posts 300 back links

Its obvious in the eyes of Google website 1 is producing higher quality content.

Agreed, quality content would also look stronger in the eyes of the algorithm. Plus add in content that is active on social platforms and things would look really really strong.
 
I don't agree with you.
Backlinks play an important role in maintaining the value and importance of site.
Backlinking methods are strongly living methods in Search Engine Optimization.
 
Google will always say that more quality content wins over anything.

In the long game this is obviously true if your producing a load of quality content then natural authority back links will follow as a result
 
No, Back-links are still active and playing great role in maintaining the importance of any website.
It is one of the best SEO technique to rank website higher on Search Engines..
 
Its informative to know backlinking still works, its a good push for a site to get more views and I havent heard much about backlinking recently
 
Quality back-links are still good but quantity is definitely not.
 
I really like the comment of 50cents.
That shows the facts of backlinks.
 
People have been saying backlinks are dead for years now but backlinks have been rankings sites for years and still do to this day - It's not the backlinks that are dead it's usually the places where people are getting them and certain platforms that become less effective over time (usually because everyone jumps on the same ship and it soon after sinks e.g. public blog networks when they were super cheap before most people start building their own PRIVATE blog networks).
 
I am sure they'll never die untill they invent a completely new method, ways and devices.
 
Content is definitely given top priority by Google but backlinks have its own importance..Just try to get backlinks from good sites and they will work..
 
Nope not dead at all. Just don't believe everything you read on the interwebz.
