You'd think so but from time to time even reputable sites get compromised and virii distributed. As for pirated software, no argument there though there are precautions you can take with pirated software that I won't go into here because I don't think the forum mods would appreciate it. But yeah, being careful about where you go and how you get there is important. A sandboxed browser with noscript is especially helpful. Technically you can sandbox just about any software you run or install which is a good practice. Avast makes that very convenient although I'm not up to speed on whether there are any exploits for it in the wild.

When it comes to a serious zero-day vulnerability to the OS however, there's little defense other than sandboxing. Just take all the tools you can and do the best you can. Enough has been said here about 10 to make an informed decision on whether or not to use it yet. Like I said before, it's all about how much risk you're willing to take. Only you can answer that.

I know that privacy thing is bad, but I can understand them. If someone is against the government or does some ponzi scheme, they can get evidence from his computer. He can't sue Microsoft because they said in their terms that they can getter files from your computer if necessery. Also every government wants more control and make people fear them and obey their laws. I know it's bad but I can understand them. If I would be on their place maybe I would do the same thing

I mean no offense but what the government now does is illegal and unconstitutional and nobody should stand for it or empathize with them in that manner. The blanket surveillance they're doing on every citizen is outrageous and has lead to zero arrests. They haven't been able to prevent one act of terror from happening with their NSA systems. It's a blatant violation of our rights and I hate it. That's a whole different thread though. They don't care about things like ponzi schemes or most laws either, just ones involving national security (Though it hasn't made us anymore secure).

As for other illegal activities, if police/feds have a warrant they should be able to try and get whatever they can. Of course these days warrants are fast tracked without review (Another big problem). Anyone using Windows for illegal activities though would be making a huge mistake. The founders of this country warned about things like are taking place now. Without privacy there is no freedom. A lot of people don't get that.

As a person who had Windows 8, and hated it, I got the free upgrade to 10 on the day it came. So far, it has been a tremendous improvement on 8. I am loving it.

Even if those numbers are true (Who knows really) it doesn't say if those were from surveillance against US citizens. IMO though (And in our constitution) no amount of arrests is reason enough to warrant blanket surveillance against US citizens' private data.

Can't we just have windows x, xI, xll and so on. I hate windows 8. Tried it and rolled back to vista.

I just did a clean install of Windows 10 education yesterday... Looks pretty good and much faster as compared to Windows 7.

I am not here to argue with you. In most areas I agree with you. As far as the privacy violation and other telemetry, it will not be in the enterprise version, and you will be able to control disable, and hide updates in the enterprise version. The enterprise version of W10 in not yet released. An enterprise that relies on data security will not tolerate data snooping, and it is the enterprise that is MS's bread and butter. What this means is that every service that provides telemetry in W10 Home and Pro can be toggled off. Sometimes you can toggle it off in services, and sometimes you have to use a powershell script to toggle it off and remove the binaries.

One man has provided a host file that will kill most of the junk. there is another way to disable much of the telemetry.

To remove most of the modern apps, and some of the others you can open power shell in administrative mode and enter for the single user account:

You may also use a script to remove all Windows Store apps that you can download at:

Be forewarned that the script in the code boxes may render the modern apps so that you cannot install them again later without reinstalling the OS because it also removes the Windows Store.

This is applicable to W10, and I was using it with the preview versions. You also want to install in local mode so that the OS does not access your email account. Install a decent email client instead of relying on the crippled one provided by MS in W10.

I upgraded one of my laptops to Windows 10 yesterday. I haven't yet begun really playing around with it so to soon to comment whether or not it's good, but I did like some of the UI improvements.

I upgraded last week and have been loving it! Much better than win8, seems more responsive and battery seems to be lasting longer..

Upgraded all computers since last week ... feels faster than 8.1

I manually upgraded to windows ten 2 days ago and i personally like it alot. Has alot of neat little features and only problem i had so far was with the nvidea drivers. After i installed the correct ones instead of microsofts it fixed that issue though.

Upgraded from 8.1.

Happy with the upgrade (has been less than a week) so far.

Nothing significant changes that I noticed but the slick design and the 'quick access' stuff I really like.

I am scared to upgrade - I don't want to lose anything - I have so many websites i'm building. You never know whats going to work or not work.

Had Windows 8.1 on an older laptop which ran horribly. Wiped it clean and threw Windows 10 on it and am much happier.

I'm starting the download will take a while with slow connection then I'll report back
