is anyone more alert at night?

Yes, but there is a good explanation. The computer screen during the evening can interfere with the body's biological clock, which associates darkness with sleep. Stimulating computer activity before bedtime, such as gaming or coding can increase brain activity, also affecting the body's biological processes involved in sleep. I find myself going to bed and sleeping later if I don't log-off around 9 and wind down.

I'm not sure I'm actually more alert late at night but some of my best ideas and problem solutions come to me after 1am.

hmmm interesting... I guess I can agree with that. Even when all the electronic screens are off I still am more alert at night though.

No matter how much or lack of sleep I get, I find my best hours are from 10pm - 3am. I just seem to have significantly more focus and more alertness at night. Anyone else like this?

Oh man, I am totally that way. I personally hate it and wish I was better at getting to bed and getting up early in the morning to get things done.

I think this is right on. I have been thinking lately that I need to turn the computer off around 9pm each night to get to bed around 10 - 10:30p.

Yeah I can agree with you OP. I get a lot of work done at night but I start to phase out around 2 am sometimes. Almost every night I say that I'm going to bed around 10 but it never happens unless I really have to get up early for something, which is a few times a week to take spinning classes at the gym.

Other than that I'm a night owl.

Yep, terrible insomniac here. Suffered my whole life with it. People that can just shut their brain off and go to bed (most of the population)have no idea how nice that is.

LOL. I guess I am welcome to the insomniac club. :D Sometimes even If I try really hard I can't really sleep early.

The method that I am using now is I finished as much as work as possible during the day so that my brain and body will get tired in the evening.

I completely agree! I believe it's due to the fact their are literally no distractions. Everyone in my neighborhood is fast asleep and it's magnificently quiet!

Its just the brain is more active at night - a medical fact

Very true, my entire family can just go to bed and fall asleep whilst it takes me a good couple of hours before I eventually doze off.

I've found doing projects at school I do my best work between 10pm and 1am. With IM and basically anything else, I generate my best ideas at night whilst I can go an entire day having nothing new come to mind.

Generally ppl dont bug us at night.. thats a main reason...

Guilty as charged. Working during the day has always been a struggle for me. I really prefer working at night and sleeping in the day. I would totally do it if it weren't for my crappy day job forcing me to do otherwise.

Insomniac here... Usually if I'm on the computer past 11pm, as long as I'm researching/reading/trying to find ways to make money, when I look at the clock it's already 3am. Lately I haven't been getting sleepy until 5am and I have to force myself to lay down. I never understood how people could sleep before 10pm as I would lay in bed until 1am and think to myself I wasted 3 hours doing nothing when I could have been on the comp learning something.

I'm pretty much a heavy sleeper, I sleep from 1 am to 10 am :D , or sometimes more, it's bad for me, I'm trying to reduce it.

I think its more to do with less distractions at night. I'm a morning person and usually do my heavy lifting early in the morning. However; I find myself sometimes making a last minute push between 10pm to 1am. Not late by most people's standards but keep in mind I am up at 5:30am.
