Old sites are still ranked here. New ones are ranking also. It's all in the technique. 
Don't be doubtful, just test new methods out...new link building techniques I mean....until you find something that works. That's what I did. Good luck.

My methods seem to be ok at the moment as i wasnt hit by penguin much, it was mainly i was hesitating with mass submission and hardcore link building when i started the post. Im back and kicking ass now

I just made no1 with 5 month old experiment, i am quite happy about it (EMD. 500 global searches a month, low competition, product that sells at 4000 usd or more, profil for me 100 usd), i made 2 sells so far, and one was 2 days ago. 1 sell a month on 1st spot and i would be happy).
I gota say i was very carefull with this and i did majority os stuff personaly, on this domain i didnt use any service from bhw . its domain with only 1 article, and 50k competing pages, no1 before me was some well known hi tech company, money spend was less then 500 usd on this experiment

Hello OP. Yup, My site is ranking first page of Google fo several keywords and my main keyword. Actually this is my 2nd site. my first site was a complete failure so when I decided to get another one, I made sure it will rank first page and it did. =) My site by the ways has been there for over 3 months now.

I would so love this to be the answer for me - but sadly not very effective in my niche. I'm aiming to have 25% social traffic by the end of the year, and just can't see it happening. I've thrown alot at the problem and am just scraping 10%.
