Is Alexa even useful?

Alexa rank doesnt matter at all. You can fake it using bots and hitleap. 100% useless.

For me yes it is helpful information. I use it often to intuit the relevance of a Web and traffic you have, before you go and look beyond their social networks, impact, backlinks... At least in my network of blogs, the figure is consistent in the visits each.

Well it is easy to fake Alexa if you buy traffic to your site.
And yes it is useless now but people do still look for Alexa rank as a standard traffic measuring tool especially if you are into flipping websites.
As for me, i do check my site stats in Alexa once a month.
There are others who wouldn't give a fuck about Alexa

It matters only if you are looking to sell links on your site because some companies look out for sites with minimum alexa of 100k and a good PR even if they don't really matter.

Alexa is not worthless, all websites have their uses.
With Alexa you get to see your website traffic rank in the world.
I think it's a good thing after a hard job to see where you rank in the world.
I'm sure Bill Gate and Warren Buffet look up forbes from time to time to see if they are still world's top billionaire even when it doesn't directly have any significance to their income. The feeling of accomplishment can never be overruled.
Another great value of Alexa is, i use it to quickly find where my competitors are getting traffic from.
Early January i launched a new website on a completely new niche that i wasn't familiar with
and quickly used Alexa to see where my top competitors were getting their traffic from, Google and Facebook top the list.
I followed the same footsteps and it was worthwhile.

I agree it is worthless as well
I would say it's a rough estimate of how popular a website is but it's by no means accurate. I had one site rise to top 30,000 which was getting around 500 real visitors per day, and I've had another site that was getting 10,000 visitors per day in the gaming niche and it didn't even break 1 million in the alexa ranking.
The only time it's useful in my opinion is when you are selling a website because a good Alexa ranking even if its not very accurate can make your site more appealing to a potential buyer.
