    Hi BHW,
I've been on these forums for a while now and I'm just curious...do you believe in the concept of IQ? If so, have you been evaluated for an IQ and why do you have your opinion? If not, why do you feel it is not a legitimate form of intellectual measurement?

I reached 133 in the official test (took 2 hours!). Anyway, I do not believe it has any significant influence on the success you can achieve in life. Emotional intelligence, that's different story though, especially if we speak about business/job where meeting people is involved.

why did u put that pyramid?
usual IQ measures only simple cognitive performance.
I went to school full of awarder mathematicians who know nothing about human nature and were close minded sheeps afraid of loosing their track, yet I have met plumers who had more wisdom and the more profound thinking of the world we live in.
IQ is real, but it's only a part

That is maslow's hierarchy of needs. Fuck being told how to run your life based on some test score. Those five steps are based on basic human needs and having achieved each step leads to opening the next step.

This one gives a better explanation :

IQ testing is not popular where I live. I personally think it 's a commercial crap to make some people rich :) I guess their IQ scores are high :D

It's popular to criticize IQ testing, but it does measure something.. like abstract reasoning skill. Most, but not all aspects of intelligence, it measures. Though it doesn't always correlate with creativity... once you hit the 110 IQ range and above, creativity is about the same.

Agreed IQ test are a valid metric, but traditional skills are not the only sign of intelligence, neither is social gain or wealth.

IQ is a useful metric in terms of academic performance. However, since <1% of the population study doctorates and then about only 40% of those become full time academics, you're looking at a measure that is only really useful to a small percentage of people.

I have an IQ of 147 (Cattel B 2, culture fair ... read as ~133 on most scales). As a measure of fluid intelligence, problem solving, etc. it's pretty good. It's shit everywhere else.

I'm barely wealthy, i've no common sense, i'm not a nice person and i'm pretty unreliable ... sure i can do maths quite well, but so can a calculator.

It has no links to professional success, happiness, wealth or your ability to pick up hot women. If it did, i'm pretty much many more people would have paid attention at school!

Anything above 125 on a standard scale and you've usually got enough behind you to do academic research. If you hit that, then great. If not, unless you want to go into research, it really doesn't mean anything.

You'd be better off doing a new product launch or working some overtime, rather than reading philosophy and increasing your IQ.

I was found to have a high IQ from young all it proved was
I was good at doing IQ tests.

I used to do logic puzzles and for relaxation.
I'm great at problem solving but even better at creating them.

I think its funny that they want to push IQ tests so much, but not so much on activities/habits/diet that will help to increase your intelligence. The affects of diet alone can increase your IQ by up to 30 points over time.

IQ tests are a sort of fetisj to help you deny your stupidity, once you are over it, your life starts. Not many people in the west get that point before their midlife crisis.

My first IQ test was when I was in elementary school. I scored 140-something. The only thing I find in common with other people who have high IQ's is that we solve our problems with different logic. I also find that what other people find as normal solutions to every day issues to be true, they tend to be harder for us to grasp. It took me several years to stop pulling on doors with large "Push" signs on them.

I've always been a fan of tests though. If anyone is interested, I'd suggest checking out the Enneagram. I took an entire semester in college learning about it. I'm a four, and it describes me to a T. I'd be interested in knowing anyone else's results, as I've found it tends to be pretty accurate in describing what kind of person you are.

There is no doubt that the IQ test is effective at comparing intelligence between people.

But of course it has no link with one's success or happiness in life.
