does anyone here repair iphones?
I have an iphone 4s with a cracked outer screen. The screen still works, when you tap your finger it recognizes the touch. it's just cracked.
The inner LCD screen is fine.

I am just wondering, what part do I need? I cant figure out if I need just the digitizer screen, or the digitizer screen and also LCD? I am getting conflicting answers from different sources.

You can usually tell when an LCD is ruined, it's like a rainbowy liquid mess. If it's just the outer screen I think you can get a repair kit on ebay that includes the screen and tools.

I did repair my iPhone few years ago, it cost me like 20€ and I did it by myself.

Just go on eBay and buy a screen plus the LCD as one unit. You can buy just the glass but good luck getting the old one off and the new one on without problems... Last I checked the entire unit was under $40 (non-oem but unless you put them side by side you won't notice) and you can open the phone to replace it.

Look online for how to replace the panel though as you literally have to take it completely apart. The 4/4s weren't easy replacements.

Had iphone for years and still using it. Dropped many times and not single crack. Maybe I am just lucky. Not sure what you mean by saying - buy a proper phone tho

They are clearly designed to break, to mug people of money. They don't make the back of them out of glass to make them look fancy, they do it so they break. Same with iPads, they are designed to break easy.

The older ones had the back which was made out of glass. Current ones are made out of aliuminium I think. Anyway, each to his own.

A 4s has a glass back, well my girlfriends does anyway. I think the 3g was probably the most solid, then they decided to make a killing making cheap nasty phones which break easily.

Apple products are the very definition of "planned obsolescence", which is terrible both for the environment and your wallet. I recommend just throwing that phone away and finding an alternative.

Go buy the parts on eBay and follow the instructions on iFixIt

I have repaired all of my phones and a few other peoples like this, its not actually that hard.

Same thing happened to my ipad mini. You can have that fixed for less than $80. Crack outer screen but the LCD is working fine. They have those in the little blackmarket stores. I wouldn't do it myself because a lot of damage can be done if you make a mistake. That is the reason why Apple doesn't suggest us to get it replace by any third party.
