When I travel I'm always having to drag my laptop around. All I use it for when I'm away from home is checking email, counting money/stats in my aff accounts and occasionally working. So I'm thinking all I need is a little Acer netbook and I'll hook up via wi-fi.

But the ipad would be awesome for watching movies on a plane etc. Does anyone have an ipad and do you really use it for work or just to have something cool with apps (that I would never personally use that I can think of).

And wtf is it with 3g or 4g aircards compared to the ipad??? If you get an ipad with 3g, you get the AT&T service plan for $29.99/month but if you want an aircard from sprint or whoever, it' slike $60/month??

First of all I had a ipad the moment it came out and I love it I work off of it and its the cool new gadget so it catches eyes.

But I would honestly say I could get away with using nothing but it fuck laptops when you have this thing.

Although the 3g is a must for me

I kinda feel the same. I mean yeah the ipad is freakin cool but what the hell? I'ts like a big iphone. Which I also don't have or care about. I'm just not sure if I can justify 2 to 4 times the cost of a little netbook just so I can look at pictures in high def.

netbooks are basically just a little cheap laptop, so these are not really the same thing.

I have a couple of netbooks and basically they're good for the essentials but when it comes to any sort of entertainment they lack unless you buy a higher end one (at this point you're paying close to the cost of a slightly older laptop that has a much bigger screen and keyboard).

For firefox and open office plus a few programs my netbooks do fine.

Understood re:netbook/cheap laptop. But you kind of reinforce my doubts about the ipad since it would almost never be used for any type of entertainment.

netbook, but with not too small screen (12" is good, 10" is just too small) and what also you should consider is the size of the keyboard
your country is making the best notebooks in the world (Dell, Lenovo), why do you want to buy an Acer?

oh and ipad looks like a fuckin drawing board :)

I would go with a netbook. more functionality, cheaper price. And for the person who can only run the basics off of their netbook, I'm not sure what you have but I use mine for everything and it works great. Granted, if I have Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Excel all running at the same time it can be a bit slow but that rarely happens so it's not a problem. I also have watched hundreds of movies on it with no problems...

I have an ASUS. I'm on my second one (the first one I messed up) and I love it. OP, before you go and buy an Acer test one out for a while. The mouse buttons being on either side of the pad fucking sucks! When I killed my first ASUS I used my friends Acer for a week and I couldn't wait to give that thing back.

you should get the netbook and if you can Asus it's so much better than Dell or Acer. I have Asus and Dell mini laptops they are great light and perfect for IM :)

iPad is just more fun photos/videos etc it's just a gadget less like a pc and remember you don't have a keyword dunno i feel like it's more comfortable to work with a keyword with iPad you get a feeling of being lazy watch pics/videos and move it with your finger ipad would be perfect for vacations :)

I use my netbook everywhere I go. Its compact and not in the way. Plus it catches eyes also. Mainly because of its size.

I always get, "Awe that little thing is cute." Just glad they're not talking about my...

Netbook FTW Plus everything tymillz just said is correct.

BTW: I have an acer netbook and 90% of my work is done on it with no problems at all.

I'd get a netbook. I carry my 19" Dell Inspiron 1525(?) around places, and feel like this is what I'm carrying around.

Netbooks because you can get actual work done.. but iPad if you're just looking to check mail and watch movies, etc. It's not for big tasks, but it can get the job done if you need it to.

I personally bring my iPad over my laptop when I'm away for awhile. In Vegas it worked very well.
