iOS View Controllers

Not sure if there's any iOS devs on here but figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm practicing iOS, and I have an app setup in the storyboard designed like this.

-> Tab bar controller -> Navigation Controller -> View Controller (Containing TableView) -> View Controller

Is this the proper way to have a tabbed application where you can click on cells in the table view? I'm missing something because it's not working with this setup. When I click the cell, nothing happens with the segue.
