Kanye West is one of the best producers in the rap game today. He puts out A POSITIVE message. He does not talk about drugs, killing people, or guns like the rest of the rappers do. His production IS an art. His performances ARE art. He IS the reason that Jay Zs albums went platinum. So, an honorary doctorate, at this point in his nearly 20 year career is justified.

I've seen Kanye West live and I decided to go home after 30 minutes of his auto-tuned bullshit. He was 45 minutes late, made no apology and then proceeded to make some sounds on stage.

I thought the same thing about auto tune. He explained himself quite well actually. "I use auto tune because I like to have complete control over my music AND my voice. I use it to bend my voice, not to auto tune it to some random setting". He is not TPain.
And because you had one bad experience at a concert that eliminates all he has done? Well, everyone has their own way of looking at things. That is yours. No big deal.

Nothing against you as a member of this forum, as I see you posting all the time and think you're very smart but I completely disagree. I think years and years ago his music was decent at best but his new music is trash. He is extremely self-absorbed and clearly cares for no one but himself. He's become infatuated with fame and money and I really think anyone so delusional deserves nothing close to a doctorate. There are plenty of rappers with a deeper message than guns and drugs. He's overrated and a terrible person. Just my personal opinion.

Hey, to each their own. I do not want to debate about opinions of a musician that none of us have ever met. His previous accomplishments went double and triple platinum. He has done a tremendous amount for the rap industry. I cannot say much else on the matter as I would rather this not turn into an unneeded flame thread. Cheers all.

There are loads of indie rappers that are much better at making art than kanye is. He only got the honorary degree because he is famous.

yeah I think Universities capitalise on their ability to hand out degrees to get some public recognition. They probably realised that Kanye West is hip with the young people today, you know? The ones that don't have fully developed hearing yet.

I looked at SAIC and 1 year of tuition currently costs $43,000/year I wouldn't be surprised if they bump it up to $50,000 within 2 years since they are using Kanye West to promote themselves.
